Nestled in the historic country town of Upper Lake in the California Wine Country, the Tallman Hotel is a historic auberge that has been serving as a faithful retreat to weary travelers since its creation in the 1890's. Our beautiful 17-room guesthouse hotel in Lake County was thoughtfully and delicately restored in 2006 to the full glory of her gold-rush era days, including the addition of our beloved Blue Wing Restaurant & Saloon which is a recreation of the original restaurant and bar on the property that provided hearty meals and refreshing drinks from the 1880's to the 1920's. Steeped in history and local heritage, the Tallman Hotel welcomes all weary travelers to cross our historic threshold and, inside, find peace, restoration, and inspiration.

Testimonials

The Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake is a 5-star retreat, perfectly paired with the Blue Wing restaurant. We went for Sunday brunch and a night away from the Bay Area—it was a delight. Brunch in the shaded garden came with coffee, a veggie omelet, and grits with greens, plus live music and cheerful service. Our spotless room was spacious, with a pool to cool off by day and a Japanese soaking tub for stargazing at night. A truly memorable stay—we’ll be back.

Whenever I’m passing through this part of California, I make it a point to stay at least one night at this charming small hotel. Run by a dedicated team, it’s clear they take great pride in every detail. The rooms are tastefully decorated, the beds exceptionally comfortable, and the atmosphere welcoming. Though the hot tub behind our room was too chilly to enjoy this time, the overall experience was still warm and memorable—always a pleasure to return.

A true hidden gem in Upper Lake, the Tallman Hotel was one of the best places we stayed from Portland to Napa. Though called a hotel, it felt like a welcoming B&B with outstanding staff. Immaculate cleanliness, thoughtful restoration, and beautiful decor—from fabrics to lighting—made it unforgettable. The pool and hot tub were perfect, and dinner at the Blue Wing next door was a delight. Even the smallest details, like spotless windows and a history book in the room, showed such care. We’d return in a heartbeat.

The Tallman Hotel’s grounds are simply magical—peaceful and serene in the afternoon, yet lively and fun in the evening. Rooms are spacious, beautifully appointed, and thoughtfully designed with ample seating. The bathroom was so inviting that it made me wish I had more time for a long soak. With elegant rooms, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent value, this truly is the place to stay when in Upper Lake. A perfect blend of comfort, charm, and price.
