Our love for our history does not mean that visitors will have to forego indoor plumbing or electricity in our hotel. Our restoration in 2006 brought all the modern conveniences and luxuries to our rooms while maintaining a rustic and historic charm that is evident in our period decor from the turn of the century.

Decorated with warm and cozy wallpapers and fabrics, our rooms in Lake County invite weary travelers to rest and restore themselves in the ultimate comforts with a luxurious yet rustic feel. We invite you in to kick off your boots, lay your head down, and seek peace.

Comfortable Retreats for Every Traveler

The Narrow Gauge Inn has 26 warm and cozy rooms, decorated in classic California mountain decor. All of our rooms include a private bathroom, although some of our rooms have a shower only. If you would rather have a room that has a bathtub, please let us know when you book. Each room has basic toiletry amenities and comfortable double, queen, or king beds depending on your preference.

The Narrow Gauge Inn also has a cozy cabin which boasts of three bedrooms and a fully-equipped kitchen and private, and fenced-in backyard. This cabin is perfect for larger traveling groups, families, or those who would just prefer a little more space and privacy. Explore our rooms and cabins below.

Tallman Hotel is proud to be home to suites in Upper Lake that are spacious enough for every guest and their needs. Our suites vary in size, from the Bungalow Suite which is our most spacious to the Main Street Suites and the Farmhouse Suite, which is ADA accessible. Our Bungalow Suite is the largest room we have on the property, and is decorated in period-perfect Eastlake-style furnishings, the Bungalow Suite is an instantly authentic experience – with all the comforts of home – and the amenities of a destination boutique hotel.

Mainstreet Suite

The Main Street Suites come with front porch entrances so you’re never too far away from the action, and also include a spacious sitting room with a queen-sized sofa sleeper, and private, separate bedroom.

Farmhouse Suite (ADA Accessible)

The Farmhouse Suite is perfect for those hoping to explore Lake County in comfort and in style. It is a ground-floor suite without stairs and only 35 feet on a brick walkway from our ADA-reserved parking space, and was featured in the 2015 book, “Resting Easy in the U.S: Unique Lodging Options for Wheelers and Slow Walkers” by Candy Harrington.

Our 7 types of rooms are located throughout the property so you can pick one that best suits your needs. Whether you prefer an accommodation that is closer to the street level, or a room with more privacy, we have you covered. All rooms come with a standard king-sized bed, a private bath, free Wi-Fi, fridge, and standard amenities to ensure that your stay with us is a comfortable one.

All of our rooms are also tastefully decorated in period-furniture and decor; having used photographic references from the original hotel to ensure that the experience guests have with us today rivals the service we have provided for over a 100 years.

Veranda Room

Our Veranda rooms feature elegant 12’ ceilings, lending them a regal feel, as well as perfectly restored bathroom fixtures that create an authentic period feel to the 1890s-era hotel. Relax with a good book on the wrap-around veranda and get some fresh air, you’ve earned it.

Upper Farmhouse Room

This delightful room is accessible by a set of external stairs that leads to your own balcony that looks over the grounds and gardens. Perfect for those looking for a bit of peace and sunshine, this room is both cozy and full of light.

Lower Garden Room

Relax on your Lower Garden room’s front porch, or soak it all in on your private back patio equipped with a Japanese Ofuro soaking tub designed for deep relaxation. Using our sustainable, geothermal heating and cooling system, we maintain the water temperature within the wooden tubs at about 101°F (38°C) year-round.
