Sustainability:
The Tallman Hotel is proud to be the first Lake County business to install electric vehicle charging stations, now comprised of 2 Tesla V3 charging stations, compatible with all modern electric vehicles except the Nissan Leaf, due to its proprietary charging dock.
We are happy to also say that our property uses a quiet and energy-efficient GeoExchange system for heating, air conditioning and hot water generation, which reduces our need for electric or gas use and reduces our carbon footprint.
43 300-foot wells have been drilled beneath the property. Water continually circulates through a closed loop system of pipes connecting to the wells, emerging at the constant temperature of the ground, approximately 55°F.
In the summer, heat exchangers cool the air by transferring heat from the air into the circulating water, which reenters the loop at a higher temperature. In the winter, the system is reversed. Hot water for the hotel, restaurant and Ofuro tubs is generated as a byproduct of this system.
We also use a 10-kilowatt solar energy system to complement and augment the GeoExchange system during peak usage times.
During reconstruction, our contractors did their best to recycle and reuse as much original building material as possible.
Restored, period-perfect bathroom fixtures, sinks, toilets and tubs lend the Tallman Hotel its authentic, 19th-century appeal. Our 1930s-era boiler has been recycled into a large, versatile outdoor grill used for our epic barbecues. Inside, a century-old Black Walnut tree, milled and cured on the property, lives on as our bar & restaurant tabletops.
