Local Attractions and Activities to Do in Lake County

The Tallman Hotel is nestled into the historic country town of Upper Lake, California, with easy access to wineries, hiking, water activities; and more. We invite you to fall in love with our local area as we have and discover the many activities to do in Lake County.

Due to the nature of our climate and soil (or terroir), our award-winning Lake County wines have established this area as one of the fastest-growing wine regions in California. Our restaurant, the Blue Wing Restaurant & Saloon, is proud to offer a wine list consisting exclusively of Lake County wines.

Some of our favorite local wineries that offer tours and tastings are Brassfield Estate Wines in High Valley, and Six Sigma Ranch and Winery, both of which offer a chance to experience agro-tourism at its best. On the other side of the Lake, we love the tasting rooms of Vigilance Wines and the Gregory Graham Winery.

Shop for local art and antiques.

In the heart of Lake County, there is a wealth of antique and local art stores just outside our doors. Right across the street from the Hotel is Oliveira’s Antiques, which offers a variety of Western and California antiquities and vintage items. If you’re interested in a truly charming and delightful experience, we also recommend Clark’s Collectibles and Lunchbox Museum at 3674 Hwy. 20, around a 10-minute drive away and with an enormous private collection of lunch pails!

If you’re interested in art, the Lake County Arts Council has an art gallery that features local artists in a beautiful setting.

Try out your luck with dice or cards

The area of Lake County, California was home to several of the most diverse and thriving Native American populations in the country. All members of the Pomo linguistic group, there are now seven federally recognized tribes in Lake County, four of which operate well-run casinos in our immediate area.

Just one mile down the road there is the very popular Running Creek Casino on HWY 20, and just a couple of miles after that there is the Robinson Rancheria. Test your luck with a game of black jack or roulette, we wish you all the best of luck!

Take a walk, a long one.

Lake County has long been known for the dormant volcano, Mt. Konocti, one of the top bass fishing lakes in the country, nearby hot springs, and more. Visitors to Tallman Hotel would be amiss to not give these outdoor gems a try while staying with us.

If you like hiking, we highly recommend a little jaunt around the lake. Please ask at the front desk for maps. We also like trekking up to the summit of Wright’s Peak, on Mt. Konocti, with stunning 360-degree views of Clearlake and surrounding vineyards. If you enjoy birding, we love a trip to Anderson Marsh State Park, which is full of protected wetlands and plenty of native birds.

Of course, we love to take a kayak around the lake, or go swimming or boating. Electric boats or private beaches are easily available for day passes or rentals.

Bathe in the healing hot springs.

Delight in the healing and transformative powers of the hot springs that surround our wonderful hotel.

Naturally fed from far below the earth, these waters have the power to restore and refresh any tired soul. We highly recommend the nearby Harbin Hot Springs resort center, where you can purchase day passes to enjoy the hot springs which can be doubled up with a massage, acupuncture, or even a spiritual reading of your tarot cards, spiritual reading, astrological chart creation, and more.
